Comparison of linear predictors obtained by data transformation, generalized linear models (GLM) and response modeling methodology (RMM)
نویسنده
چکیده
The data-transformation approach and generalized linear modeling both require specification of a transformation prior to deriving the linear predictor (LP). By contrast, response modeling methodology (RMM) requires no such specifications. Furthermore, RMM effectively decouples modeling of the LP from modeling its relationship to the response. It may therefore be of interest to compare LPs obtained by the three approaches. Based on numerical quality problems that have appeared in the literature, these approaches are compared in terms of both the derived structure of the LPs and goodness-of-fit statistics. The relative advantages of RMM are discussed. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Generalized Linear Models with Functional Predictors
In this paper we present a technique for extending generalized linear models (GLM) to the situation where some of the predictor variables are observations from a curve or function. The technique is particularly useful when only fragments of each curve have been observed. We demonstrate, on both simulated and real world data sets, how this approach can be used to perform linear, logistic and cen...
متن کاملPredicting Vascular Plant Diversity in Anthropogenic Peatlands: Comparison of Modeling Methods with Free Satellite Data
Peatlands are ecosystems of great relevance, because they have an important number of ecological functions that provide many services to mankind. However, studies focusing on plant diversity, addressed from the remote sensing perspective, are still scarce in these environments. In the present study, predictions of vascular plant richness and diversity were performed in three anthropogenic peatl...
متن کاملA comparison of algorithms for maximum likelihood estimation of Spatial GLM models
In spatial generalized linear mixed models, spatial correlation is assumed by adding normal latent variables to the model. In these models because of the non-Gaussian spatial response and the presence of latent variables the likelihood function cannot usually be given in a closed form, thus the maximum likelihood approach is very challenging. The main purpose of this paper is to introduce two n...
متن کاملFunctional Adaptive Model Estimation
In this article we are interested in modeling the relationship between a scalar, Y , and a functional predictor, X(t). We introduce a highly flexible approach called ”Functional Adaptive Model Estimation” (FAME) which extends generalized linear models (GLM), generalized additive models (GAM) and projection pursuit regression (PPR) to handle functional predictors. The FAME approach can model any...
متن کاملPrediction of Plant Species Boibiversity using Generalized Linear Model (GLM) and Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) in Eastern Rangelands of Mazandaran
Abstract Background and objectives: Prediction of species richness and diversity patterns are used to develop conservation strategies for biodiversity under regional and global environmental changes. Since modeling the distribution of plant species can provide useful and important information about identifying and introducing potential habitats of plant species, and also few studies have been ...
